Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) led four players in double figures with 20 points to lead the Western New England College men's basketball team to a 72-55 victory over Albertus Magnus College Tuesday night (Jan. 23) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
The Golden Bears started slow trailing 5-0 a little more than two minutes into the game before leading by as many as 11 (29-18) at the 5:36 mark. The Falcons staged a comeback to get within four (34-30) at the break.
Albertus took its only lead of the second half at 47-46 with 8:57 remaining in the contest before the Golden Bears went on a 16-2 run for a 62-49 margin capped by a three-pointer by Maynard with 2:39 left. Maynard made 8-of-14 shots from the field and also pulled down five rebounds.
Junior guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) added 15 points while junior forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman guard Chris DeVine (Wilbraham, MA) contributed a season high 11 points, his second straight outing in double figures.
Western New England College improves its record to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC.
Bobby Leonzo led the Falcons (1-13 and 1-6 in the conference) with 13 points and seven rebounds.
