WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College took an early lead before Curry battled back for a 7-2 victory in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey contest Tuesday night (Jan. 23) at the Olympia Ice Center.
The Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore forward Jason Remsbecker (Farmingdale, NY) at the 14:49 mark with assists from freshman forward Justin Graziano (North Haven, CT) and sophomore center Joe Willard (Holliston, MA).
The Colonels tied the contest just 1:35 later and then broke the game open with three goals in the middle stanza for a 4-1 advantage. Sophomore defenseman Jason Tarbell (Manchester, NH) scored on a power play goal at 2:05 of the third period to give the visitors five straight unanswered. He finished the night with a hat trick. Junior forward Eddie Chlanda (Central Islip, NY) contributed a goal and two assists.
Western New England College tallied its other goal when junior forward Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME) found the back of the net at 2:48 of the final period with assists from sophomore forwards Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) and Dean Smith (Warwick, RI).
WNEC falls to 7-9 overall and 1-7 in the ECAC Northeast. Curry, which started the evening tied for the conference lead with UMass Dartmouth, improves to 10-7-1 and 8-1.
