Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Western New England College played one of its best games of the season in defeating host Suffolk University 87-69 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game Monday night (Jan. 29).
It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Golden Bears who are now 12-7 overall and 9-2 in the conference.
Junior guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) led a balanced scoring attack with a career high 23 points, which included 4-of-7 from three-point territory.
Junior forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) added 19 points while junior guard Asif Abdul-Wadud (Springfield, MA) contributed 14 points while tying his career high with six assists.
Sophomore forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) had a strong outing with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Western New England College, which led 40-26 at halftime, shot an impressive 52.8% from the field and connected on 26-of-32 free throws (81.3%). The Golden Bears also held a big 43-21 edge off the boards.
Senior guard John Murphy had 19 points for the Rams who fall to 6-13 and 5-6 in the GNAC.
WNEC also captured the first meeting between the teams 78-55 back on January 9 in Springfield.
