Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) had a double double with 18 points and a career high 10 rebounds to lead Western New England College to a 64-53 victory over pesky Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball game Monday night (Jan. 29).
Senior forward Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) added 13 points (her second highest scoring output of the season) as the Golden Bears improved their record to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Western New England College also received a big lift from sophomore guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) who contributed a season high eight points while pulling down five offensive rebounds.
Albertus Magnus received a game high 23 points from senior center Candace Young (Hartford, CT) who also collected seven rebounds. Senior guard Missy Lumas (Milford, CT) added 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Senior guard Noelle Leonelli (Milford, CT) also was in double figures with 10 points.
Young and Lumas each had 12 points in the first half as the Falcons took a 32-31 lead at intermission.
Western New England College started the second half with a 12-2 run and upped its margin to 53-40 following a basket by junior guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hampden, CT) with 9:28 remaining in the game.
Albertus Magnus (2-13, 1-6 GNAC) staged a mild rally pulling within six at 54-48 after a basket by Young at the 5:47 mark. The Golden Bears, however, scored the next eight points to seal the victory.
Also for Western New England College, freshman center Kaylyn Smith (Rensselaer, NY) had seven points coming off the bench while senior forward Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, CT) had six points (all in the second half) and six rebounds.
