Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. â€" The Western New England College men’s basketball had five players scoring in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as Nichols came away with a 66-61 victory in a non-league contest Saturday (Jan. 6).
The Golden Bears, who were playing for the first time in four weeks, are now 5-5 after having their four-game win streak ended.
Sophomore forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) and sophomore guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) each tallied 11 points for Western New England College. Fredette also pulled down nine rebounds.
Junior forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Junior guards Asif Abdul-Wadud (Springfield, MA) and Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) also scored 10 points.
Nichols led 32-28 at half-time and had an 11-point margin (64-53) with 2:54 remaining before the Golden Bears rallied pulling within three after scoring eight straight points after Hernandez drilled a three-pointer with 25 seconds left.
The Bison (5-4) made two free throws in the final 23 seconds for the victory.
Sophomore Jeff Lindgren came off the bench to score 12 points for the hosts who received 32 points from its reserves, including 11 from freshman Ryan Wilcox.
Western New England College had a commanding 57-38 advantage off the boards, but made 20 turnovers, including one in the final seconds of the game.
