Western New England College plays Endicott tough before dropping TCCC match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team held its own against highly-regarded Endicott before dropping a hard-fought 3-1 decision in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match Tuesday evening (Oct. 2) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The visitors won the first two games by the scores of 30-25 and 30-27 before the Golden Bears posted a 30-27 win in the third game. The Gulls (14-6) came back to take the fourth game 30-24 to remain undefeated in the conference at 5-0.

Senior Ashley O'Keefe (South Dennis, MA) had a double-double for WNEC with 14 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) added 12 kills and six digs while freshman Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) contributed nine kills and 12 digs. Freshman Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) chipped-in with 36 assists, four blocks, and three service aces.

Junior Brittney Nolan (Monroe, CT) led Endicott with 24 digs while sophomore Steph Wiese compiled a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Senior Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA) had 39 assists with freshman Amy Grigg (Vernon, CT) totaling 13 kills.

Western New England College falls to 15-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
