MILTON, Mass. - Curry College broke open a close game by scoring five goals in the second period in a 10-3 victory over visiting Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game Saturday (Nov. 17).
Junior defensman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season just 2:10 into the contest. Junior forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) and sophomore forward Matt Haddock (Hilliard, OH) earned the assists.
The Colonels went ahead 2-1 before sophomore forward Justin Graziano (North Haven, CT) tallied his first goal of the season at the 16:20 mark of the opening period to tie the game. Senior forward Shawn Longley (Raymond, ME) and junior forward Craig Reyell (West Chazy, NY) assisted on the play.
Junior forward James Pentecost (Marquette, MI) then netted a short-handed goal 2:12 into the middle stanza for the first of seven unanswered goals for the hosts over the next 25:48.
The Golden Bears' final goal came when junior defenseman Drew Rosser (Herndon, VA) tallied his first goal of the season at 8:23 with another assist from Longley.
WNEC junior goalie Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT) compiled 33 saves in two periods while freshman Justin Richards (Somers, CT) stopped 14 shots in the final period in his college debut.
Sophomore goalie Steven Jakiel (Santa Clarita, CA) stopped 16 shots for Curry. Junior forward Jeffrey Hazelwood (Dublin, CA) led the Colonels with two goals and two assists.
Western New England College falls to 0-7-1 and 0-3-1 in the conference while Curry improves to 3-0-1 after playing its fourth straight conference contest to start the season.
