WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore forwards Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) and Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) each had a goal and assist, but Western New England College fell to visiting Salve Regina University 5-3 Saturday night (Feb. 10) in an ECAC Northeast contest at the Olympia Ice Center.
The Seahawks notched the win by scoring a power play goal with 1:22 left in the contest and an empty net score with 53 seconds remaining.
It was close all evening with the game tied 2-2 after the opening period. Lamy gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at 5:00 with assists from Levin and freshman forward Matt Haddock (Hillard, OH). SRU scored on a power play goal just 12 seconds later.
Sophomore forward Joe Willard (Holliston, MA) gave the Golden Bears a 2-1 advantage with a power play goal at 7:13 before the Seahawks tied the game at 13:26.
In the second period Western New England College went ahead for the third time at 3-2 when Levin fired home a goal at 10:06 with assists from Willard and sophomore defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA). Salve Regina again answered with its own power play goal at 14:19.
The game remained tied until junior defenseman Mike Kravchuk (Peabody, MA) scored the game-winner on a power play goal at the 18:38 mark of the final period.
Sophomore goalie Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT) finished with 21 saves for the Golden Bears while sophomore Chase Goodrich (Salisbury, VT) had eight stops for Salve Regina (8-13-1, 6-7 ECAC).
Western New England College now has an 8-13 record and 2-11 ECAC Northeast mark.
