Suffolk stops Western New England College in close GNAC contest

BOSTON, Mass. - One streak ended and another continued when Suffolk University defeated visiting Western New England College 64-61 in a close Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball game Thursday night (Feb. 15).

The Rams ended the Golden Bears' eight-game winning streak while improving their record to 17-7 (9-1 GNAC) with their seventh straight victory.

Senior forward Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, CT) led WNEC with 17 points while junior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) netted 16 points.

Senior forward Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) came through with one of her best outings of the season with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Western New England College (13-11, 7-3 GNAC) is fourth in the conference entering its regular season finale Saturday at Pine Manor College.

The Golden Bears will host fifth-seeded Emerson in a quarterfinal round game of the GNAC Tournament at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday (Feb. 20).
