Box Score MILTON, Mass. - The Western New England College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to six games with a 65-51 victory over host Curry College Thursday night (Feb. 8) in a non-league contest.
Junior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) led the way with 19 points and six rebounds while senior forward Sharon Simoncelli (Litchfield, CT) added 18 points and seven rebounds. Simoncelli was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line.
The Golden Bears also received a double digit scoring performance from junior guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) who had 16 points along with six rebounds.
Senior forward Vicky Taylor (Feeding Hills, MA) pulled down a game high 13 rebounds while senior guard Jenna Cullen (East Haddam, CT) dished out six assists coming off the bench.
DeRosa hit a three-pointer to start the game and the Blue and Gold jumped to a 8-0 lead en route to a 33-23 halftime advantage.
The Colonels got within eight at 42-34 with 12:42 remaining in the contest before the Golden Bears scored the next nine points capped by a Dabrowski three-pointer for a 51-34 lead at the 8:14 mark.
Western New England College now moves over the .500 mark for only the second time this season with an 11-10 record.
Bonnie Hirtle and Christina Sancinito each had 16 points for Curry who falls to 9-12.
Western New England College will meet Curry again next season when its joins the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
