FT. MYERS, Fla. - For the second straight day the Western New England College softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday (Mar. 20) at the Gene Cusic Classic. The Golden Bears defeated Plymouth State in the opener 4-1 before suffering an 8-1 loss to New Paltz in the second contest.
Sophomore Brittnay DeGennaro (Orange, CT) tossed a complete game six-hitter against the Panthers allowing no earned runs while striking out five and walking one in her first start of the season.
Senior second base player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) crushed a three-run homer while junior third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT) added a solo blast. Sophomore Toni Hand (Londonderry, NH) contributed a pair of singles.
In the second game, junior catcher Allison Glassick (Newport, RI) had two hits, including a homer for the lone Golden Bears' run. Senior first base player Jess Nelson (South Hadley, MA) chipped in with a double and single.
Western New England College (2-2) has the day off Wednesday (MKar. 21) before meeting St. Lawrence and Buffalo State in a twinbill starting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (Mar. 22).
