CAPE CORAL, Fla. – It was a tough day for the Western New England College softball team who dropped a doubleheader against St. Lawrence 15-14 and Buffalo State 12-0 at the Gene Cusic Classic Thursday (Mar. 22).
The Golden Bears had 17 hits in the opener and led 10-9 after five innings. The Saints scored three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings for a 15-10 advantage. WNEC rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded but fell short.
Senior second base player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) and junior catcher Allison Glassick (Newport, RI) each had three hits, including a homer. Sophomore pitcher/shortstop Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) also contributed three hits.
Western New England College collected only six hits against Buffalo State in falling to 2-4. Junior second base player Ninielle Bushmich (Woburn, MA) and DeGennaro (Orange, CT) each had a double.
Buffalo State led 3-0 after six innings and broke the game open by scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh.
Western New England College falls to 2-3 on its spring break visit to the Sunshine state.
