SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior designated player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) had three hits, including a grand slam homer, to lead the Western New England College softball team to a 6-3 victory over visiting Fitchburg State College in a non-league contest Wednesday afternoon (April 11).
Ganser's blast was her sixth home run of the season and gave the Golden Bears a 5-0 lead in the second inning. She also knocked in a run in the first inning to finish the day 3-for-4 with five RBI.
Freshman right fielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) went 1-for-3 with two runs and stole her sixth base of the season.
Sophomore Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) allowed eight hits and two runs to improve her record to 5-1. She helped herself by pitching out of a no out, bases loaded jam in the sixth.
Fitchburg State had 11 hits, but left 12 runners on base. Senior shortstop Keri Kravetz (West Bridgewater, MA) led the Falcons by going 2-for-4 with a solo homer (her fourth of the season) in the seventh.
Junior center fielder Jess Morse (Milford, MA) had two hits, including a two-run single in the third. Sophomore pitcher Megan Black (Bernardston, MA) also collected two hits. She gave up 10 hits and five earned runs with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks.
This was a make-up game from an earlier rain-out and the Falcons were the home team after the contest was moved from Fitchburg to Springfield.
