BOSTON, Mass. - The Western New England College softball team continued its strong hitting with a pair of 6-3, 18-11 victories over host Suffolk University Saturday afternoon (April 7) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Puopolo Field.
The Golden Bears, who defeated Norwich twice on Friday (11-9, 14-11), are now 12-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference. The Rams fall to 6-14 and 5-5 in the GNAC.
Game 1 Highlights
Western New England College – Freshman shortstop Kate Post (Bridgewater, MA) went 2-for-3 with a double, single, run, and pair of RBI. Senior first base player Jes Nelson had a two-run triple and scored a run while freshman left fielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) had a single and two runs. Sophomore Laura Bower (Hudson, MA) allowed eight hits and only two earned runs while striking out nine and walking three in gaining her fifth victory of the season.
Suffolk – Sophomore catcher Ashley Gaboriault and freshman third base player Erin O'Donnell each had a single and double with Gaboriault also knocking in two runs.
Game 2 Highlights
Western New England College – The Golden Bears exploded for 20 hits with junior third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT) going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs, and six RBI. Post added a pair of doubles and single along with four runs, and three RBI to complete a five-hit day. Senior second base player Steph Ganser (Fairfield, CT) had two singles, a double, two runs, and a RBI. Sophomore center fielder Toni Hand (Londonderry, NH) also had a pair of singles, double, and three runs. Sophomore pitcher Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) went 5 1/3 innings for her fourth win of the season. She also had a single and double along with a run and RBI.
Suffolk – The Rams banged out 15 hits with senior right fielder Jackie Zwicker and sophomore shortstop Marie Trainor each compiling three hits. Zwicker also had a triple along with a pair of RBI and runs.
