SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College started fast, then maintained its poise for a 3-2 victory over UMass Boston in a non-league women's volleyball match Tuesday evening (Sept. 25) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
The game scores were 30-24, 30-21, 24-30, 25-30, and 15-12.
Senior Ashley O'Keefe (South Dennis, MA) had a double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs along with a pair of service aces for the Golden Bears.
Freshman Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) also contributed a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.
WNEC's balanced attack featured sophomore Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) with 18 kills and junior Lizzie Manor (Black River, NY) with 11 digs.
Freshman Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) had another big night with 48 assists, six blocks, and four service aces.
Western New England College improves its record to 13-2 after winning its third consecutive match and fifth in its last six outings.
Sophomore Kate White (Plymouth, MA) was a bright spot for the Beacons with 16 kills and an ace while freshman Emily Thompson (Wausau, WI) compiled 17 digs. Senior Randle Stock (Hopkinton, MA) contributed 34 assists, five digs, and three service aces.
UMass Boston now has a 5-9 record.
