DANBURY, Conn. – The Western New England College women's volleyball team improved to 7-0 with two victories Friday (Sept. 7) at the WestConn Invitational.
The Golden Bears defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-1 in the opening match by the scores of 30-17, 28-30, 30-14, and 30-14, and blanked Framingham State 3-0 by the scores of 30-13, 30-27, and 301-5 in the late match.
Senior outside hitter/middle blocker Ashley O'Keefe (South Dennis, MA) had 17 kills, eight digs, and four digs against Wentworth while freshman setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 25 assists and two blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter/right side Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) added five kills, four digs, and two blocks against Framingham while freshman outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) chipped in with five kills, three service aces, and two blocks.
Coach Charlie Haer's squad meets St. Joseph (Conn.) and host Western Connecticut in the second day of competition on Saturday (Sept. 8).
