DANBURY, Conn. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team fnished second at the WestConn Invitational Saturday (Sept. 8)after defeating St. Joseph (Connecticut) 3-0 and dropping a thrilling 3-2 decision to host Western Connecticut in the final match of the tournament.
The Golden Bears had an easy time downing the Blue Jays by the scores of 30-20, 30-19, and 30-18. Freshman outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) led the attack with 14 kills
In the title match. the Colonials (5-3) avenged a loss to the Golden Bears (8-1) last week at the WNEC Invitational and gave Western New England College its first loss of the season. The game scores were 23-30, 31-29, 30-13, 23-30, and 15-10.
Western New England College senior Ashley O'Keefe (South Dennis, MA) was selected to the All-Tournament Team. She had 56 kills and 25 digs in four matches, incuding 18 kills and eight digs against Western Connecticut.
Freshman setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) also played well with 95 assists (35 vs. WCSU) in the tournament.
