Western New England College nets win over Gordon for first TCCC victory

WENHAM, Mass. - The Western New England College women's tennis opened its season with a 7-2 win over host Gordon College Saturday (Sept. 8), which was the school's first victory in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) competition.

The Golden Bears won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches on a hot and humid afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex courts.

Senior Meredith Hughes (Sprngfield, MA) led the way by capturing her No. 1 singles match and No. 1 doubles event with sophomore Kristen Ayers (Acton, MA).

Junior Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, PA) and senior Aimee Schapp (Torrington, CT) won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectibvely, and teamed to defeat their Fighting Scots' opponents at the No. 3 doubles position.
