SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guards Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) and Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) scored 22 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Western New England College to a 53-38 victory over visiting Roger Williams University in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women's basketball contest Tuesday night (Jan. 15) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Dabrowski also pulled down seven rebounds, had four steals, and blocked three shots in another fine overall performance.
Junior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) also made a significant contribution by scoring nine points with six rebounds and four steals coming off the bench in her best game of the season.
The Golden Bears used a 17-0 run to take a 30-22 lead at intermission. Dabrowski hit a jumper to give the hosts a 41-28 advantage with 15:03 remaining in the game before RWU cut the margin to 41-34 on a three-pointer by freshman guard Kate Malenczak (Sayville, NY) at the 11:52 mark.
The Hawks were still in the game at 46-38, but didn't score any points in the final eight minutes, 17 seconds.
Junior forward Casey Anderson (Cohasset, MA) compiled a double-double for the visitors with 11 points and a game high 15 rebounds.
Western New England College evens its record at 6-6 and improves to 2-0 in the conference. Roger Williams drops to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in TCCC.
