BSecond half explosion leads Western New England College over Wentworth

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's basketball team exploded for 51 points in the second half in rolling to a 74-49 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday night (Jan. 23) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Senior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) led the Golden Bears with 17 points with 13 coming in the second half. She also had four rebounds and a career high five blocked shots. Freshman guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) added 15 points and eight rebounds while freshman guard Lauren Stock (Rocky Hill, CT) contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

It was a close opening half with the teams taking a 23-23 tie into the locker room at intermission.

The Leopards took a 30-26 lead in the opening two minutes of the second half before WNEC used runs of 21-3 and 18-5 to take a commanding 65-38 advantage with 6:58 left in the contest.

Sophomore guard Jessie Coffey (Wakefield, RI) led the visitors with 14 points while senior forward Emily Cring (Cicero, NY) had six points and eight rebounds.

Western New England College (8-7, 3-1 TCCC) shot 59.3% in the second half and made 14-of-15 foul shots in the game. The Golden Bears' defense also forced 25 turnovers.

Wentworth (8-7, 1-3 TCCC) had a tough night at the foul line making 4-of-11 charity shots and only 35.1% of its field-goal attempts.

This also was the Golden Bears' second highest scoring total of the season after a 77-point total against Williams in the second game of the season back on November 18.
