AUBURN, Mass. – Junior forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) tallied two goals for the second straight game and freshman Justin Richards (Somers, CT) again was outstanding in the net making 37 saves as the Western New England College men's hockey team blanked host Worcester State 3-0 in a non-league contest Thursday (Jan. 24) at Horgan Arena.
The Golden Bears unleashed a season high 51 shots in raising their winning streak to four games.
Both teams had 15 shots in the opening period, which ended in a scoreless tie.
Majesty, who scored twice in a 3-2 win over UMass Dartmouth on January 19, gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season at 1:18 of the second period with an assist from sophomore defenseman Joe Trimboli (Las Vegas, NV).
Majesty added his second goal of the evening at the 18:00 mark as freshman forward Vinny Weyel (North Haven, CT) earned the assist.
WNEC's final goal came at 8:07 of the third period when junior defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) fired home his third goal of the year. Junior forward Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) and freshman forward Kyle Daly (Auburn, MA) each assisted on the play.
Richards, meanwhile, compiled 13 saves in the middle stanza and nine in the final period in gaining his second shutout of the season and fourth consecutive win as the starting goalie. Freshman David Schultz (North Andover, MA) stopped 48 shots for the Lancers.
Western New England College improves to 4-12-1 while Worcester State drops to 1-15.
WNEC hosts Fitchburg State in an ECAC Northeast contest at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 26) at Smead Arena.
