Nationally-ranked Amherst downs Western New England College in non-league contest

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, CT) tallied a game high 13 points as nationally-ranked Amherst posted a 64-42 victory over visiting Western New England College in a non-league women's basketball game Tuesday evening (Jan. 29) at LeFrank Gymnasium.

The Lords Jeffs, ranked 17th in the d3hoops.com and 20th in the USA Today/ESPN Division III polls, improved their record to 18-1.

Amherst led 36-21 at halftime before WNEC used a 12-5 run to start the second half to get within eight at 41-33. The hosts scored the next six points and were never threatened after that.

Freshman guard Lauren Stock (Rocky Hill, CT) was the only Golden Bears' player in double figures with 10 points. Junior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) and freshman guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) each added seven points.

Senior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) managed only five shots and finished with six points after entering the contest sixth in the nation with a 21.6 average.

Amherst, which bounced back from its first loss of the season last Saturday at Williams, held at big 47-24 edge in rebounding.

Freshman Jaci Daigneault (Guilford, CT) contributed nine points and nine rebounds while junior Yasmine Hartik (New York, NY) had eight points and a game best 10 rebounds.

Western New England College (9-8) visits Nichols at 6:00 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 31) in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) contest.
