PINE VALLEY, N.Y. - No. 2 Elmira remained undefeated by skating to an easy 8-0 victory over visiting Western New England College in a non-conference men's hockey contest before 1,325 fans Saturday night (Jan. 5) at the Murray Athletic Center.
The Soaring Eagles, who had 51 shots, improved their record to 9-0-2 while the Golden Bears (who were playing their first game since December 5) remain winless at 0-11-1.
Junior defenseman Nicolas Dumoulin (Prevost, QC) led the home team with two goals (both on power plays) while junior forwards David McKenna (Toronto, ONT) and Jan Velich (Pardubice, Czech Republic), and sophomore defenseman Greg Moore (Chateauguay, QC) each added a goal and assist. Senior forward Michael Richard (LaSalle, QC) contributed three assists, including his 100th career point. Freshman goalie Kevin Bolin (Islip Terrace, NY) made 12 saves for his first win.
Elmira scored its first three goals on power play shots in taking a 2-0 lead after the first period and 5-0 advantage after the second stanza.
Western New England College junior forward Jason Remsbecker (Farmingdale, NY) won 5-of-9 face-offs.
Junior goalie Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT) compiled 31 saves before freshman Justin Richards (Somers, CT) entered the game in the third period. Richards stopped 12 shots and allowed only two goals in 16:42 in his second appearance of the season.
The Golden Bears return to ECAC Northeast action at Plymouth State on Wednesday (Jan. 9) and host Potsdam (N.Y.) in a non-league game on Saturday (Jan. 12) at Smead Arena.
