Western New England College wins one of three matches at Hay Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team won one of three matches in the final day of competition at the Hay Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 11).

In a morning contest, the Golden Bears fell to host Springfield 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-15), then dropped a 3-0 decision to Plymouth State (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) the first afternoon match.

WNEC ended the tournament on a positive note with a comeback 3-1 victory over Westfield State (17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21).

Sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) had another solid outing with 17 assists and two service aces against Springfield.

She also was selected to the Hay Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) compiled 14 digs against Plymouth State.

Springfield posted a perfect 4-0 record in the two-day event to capture the team title. Sophomore outside hitter Heather Lively (Royalston, MA) was named the Tournament MVP.
