Western New England College keeps playoff hopes alive with win over Crusaders

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene Wedneday evening (Oct. 22) in the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The game scores were 25-21, 25-15, and 25-20.

Junior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) had 10 kills, eight digs, and three aces to lead the Golden Bears.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) added 12 digs and five aces while sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) contributed 19 assists and four aces.

For the Crusaders, junior outside hitter Allison Aupperlee (Quincy, MA) compiled eight kills and nine digs. Senior defensivespecialist Jami Swedick (Averill Park, NY) chipped-in with six digs.

Western New England College is now 13-16 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Golden Bears are tied for sixth with Salve Regina with two league matches remaining in the regular season. The top eight squads qualifiy for the post-season tournament.

Eastern Nazarene falls to  9-14 and 0-7 in the conference.
