SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College women's tennis team saw its six-match win steak ended after dropping a 6-3 decision to visiting Salve Regina Saturday afternoon (Oct. 4).
The Golden Bears received victories from junior Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) and freshman Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively.
Murnane, who has a 6-2 singles mark, also captured her No. 3 doubles match with sophomore Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, NY). They have a 7-1 doubles record this season.
Barbarisi improved her overall singles mark to 7-2.
There were several close matches with the Seahawks' duo of sophomore Erin Phillips (Morristown, NJ) and junior Jessica Timpano (Narragansett, RI) taking the No. 1 doubles flight along with the top two singles matches.
Western New England College is now 6-5 overall and 4-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Salve Regina improves to 5-2 and 5-1 in the conference.
