Western New England College has top performance in victory over Bay Path

LONGMEADOW, Mass. - The Western New England College women's tennis team had one of its top performances of the season with an impressive 8-1 non-league victory over host Bay Path Thursday afternoon (Oct. 9) at the Longmeadow High School courts.

The win gave the Golden Bears an 8-5 record with one match left in the regular season and assured coach Jen Kolins' squad of its ninth consecutive winning campaign.

WNEC captured all six singles and the top two doubles events in snapping the Wildcats' 10-match winning streak.

Junior Kristen Ayers (Acton, MA) and freshman Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then proceeded to captured their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively.

Senior captain Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, PA) won her No. 3 singles match while freshman Jessica Haffner (Suffield, CT) came through with an exciting 6-2, 4-6 (11-9 tie-breaker) decision at the No. 4 singles position. The two players also posted a victory at the No. 2 doubles flight.

Junior Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) and freshman Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) won their No. 5 and No. 6 singles outings, respectively.

Bay Path lost for only the second time in 12 matches this fall.
