Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL) scored twice as the Western New England College men's hockey team captured its first win of the season with a 4-2 victory over visiting Assumption Tuesday night (Nov. 18) at Smead Arena.
The Golden Bears improved to 1-4, their same mark in the ECAC Northeast.
The Ice Dogs took a 1-0 lead when freshman forward Dennis Silvio (Beverly, MA) netted his first college goal at 12:16 of the opening period.
Western New England College dominated play in the second stanza scoring three goals while holding the visitors to only two shots.
Senior center Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) tied the contest at the 2:29 mark with assists from senior forward Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) and freshman forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IL).
Majesty then put the Golden Bears ahead for good with a power play goal at 9:28 as freshman center Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) earned the assist.
Sophomore forward Vin Weyel (North Haven, CT) gave the home team a two-goal advantage on another power play shot just 2:54 later with assists from senior forward Craig Reyell (West Chazy, NY) and sophomore defenseman Chris Lloyd (Lindenhurst, NY).
WNEC took a 4-1 lead when Majesty tallied an unassisted goal at 11:18 of the third period.
Sophomore forward Patrick Fitzgibbons (Holliston, MA) notched the final goal with 46 seconds remaining in the game. He also finished with an assist, as did Silvio.
Junior goalie Dennis Harrsch (Morrisonville, NY) stopped 16 shots for the Golden Bears.
Freshman Steve DiDomenico (Lowell, MA) started in goal for the Ice Dogs and compiled 16 saves in 40 minutes. Junior Jamie DiGiulio (Peabody, MA) played the final period and made eight saves.
Assumption falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the ECAC Northeast.
