Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior center Jeff Chillson (Enfield, CT) scored two goals with two assists to lead the Westfield State men's hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Western New England College in the inaugural Falcons Cup Saturday afternoon (Nov. 22) before 476 fans at the MassMutual Center.
The Owls, who are playing their first season as a NCAA Division III program, improved to 3-1-1 following their second win in less than 48 hours. WSC defeated Salve Regina 7-3 last night.
Chillson was the difference as he was involved with his team's first five goals starting with a power play score with 1.9 seconds remaining in the opening period.
The Owls took a 2-0 lead on a goal by freshman defenseman Jon Madsen (Somers, CT) at 9:07 of the second period.
Western New England College (1-5) got on the board when senior center Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) knocked in a shot with just 47 seconds left in the period.
The Golden Bears rallied to tie the contest when sophomore defenseman Chris Lloyd (Lindenhurst, NY) netted a goal at the 8:24 mark.
Westfield State bounced back to score three times in the final 7:48 with freshman forward Benni Schennach (Ehrwald, Austria) gaining the game-winner at 12:12 with an assist from Chillson.
Chillson added an insurance goal just 3:58 later before freshman forward A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, Ohio) completed the scoring with an empty goal at 19:44.
Westfield State freshman goalie Ian Wilson (Tulsa, OK) compiled 23 saves while sophomore center Dennis Zak (Dover, NJ) and freshman forward Pat Nelson (Cary, NC) each contributed a pair of assists.
Junior Dennis Harrsch (Morrisonville, NY) stopped 11 shots for the Golden Bears.
The teams will meet again in an ECAC Northeast contest on Wednesday, January 28 at the Amelia Ice Center in Westfield.
