Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Shane Murphy (Tolland, CT) scored the game-winner on a power play goal 1:26 into overtime as visiting Franklin Pierce rallied for a 3-2 victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey contest Tuesday night (Dec. 2) at Smead Arena.
The Ravens improved their record to 2-4-1 and 2-3-1 in the league while the Golden Bears fall to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the ECAC Northeast.
Franklin Pierce tied the game when freshman forward Anthony Chigisola (Whitman, MA) fired home a shot on another power play shot with 1:16 left in the third period.
Western New England College took a 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Vin Weyel (North Haven, CT) scored at 7:46 of the second period. Senior defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) gained the assist.
Senior forward Jay Stempniak (West Seneca, NY) tied the game just 2:13 into the final period. He also assisted on the winning shot with senior forward Josh Lupinek (East Haddam, CT).
The Golden Bears took a 2-1 advantage when senior defenseman Jake Rinaldo (Union, NJ) netted his first college goal at the 5:50 mark with an assist from senior forward Mike Majesty (Chicago, IL).
Junior goalie Jon Tuttle (Concord, NH) finished with 21 saves for the visitors while junior Dennis Harrsch (Morrisonville, NY) stopped 28 shots for the Golden Bears.
