Second period surge sends Salve Regina past Western New England College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Ryan Petersen (Shrewsbury, MA) scored two goals and freshman goalie Ben Bradley (Newburyport, MA) made 28 saves in his first college start as visiting Salve Regina posted a 5-2 victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast men's hockey game Tuesday night (Dec. 9) at Smead Arena.

The Seahawks, who were 0-4-1 in their last five outings, improve to 2-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference. The Golden Bears fall to 1-8 and 1-6 in the ECAC after dropping their fourth consecutive game.

WNEC took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Phil Lamy (Manchester, NH) scored his first goal of the season on a power play shot at 9:59 of the opening period. Senior forward Ross Bennett-Bonn (Warwick, RI) had the assist.

Salve Regina then scored four times in the middle period with senior forward Conor McCahill (Highland Ranch, CO) starting things off at the 4:43 mark.

Petersen then fired home a short-handed goal at 7:49 before freshman forward Lee Trott (Rehoboth, MA) delivered the eventual game-winner on a power play just 1:48 later.

Western New England College pulled within 3-2 when freshman forward Rory Hansen (Noblesville, IL) notched a goal at 18:29. Assists went to freshman forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) and Lamy.

Petersen answered with his second score with just 11 seconds remaining in the period as the Seahawks took a 4-2 advantage after 40 minutes.

Junior forward Patrick Bambery (Braintree, MA) scored just 53 seconds into the third period and SRU was never threatened. Bambery also had an assist while sophomore forward Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, VT) contributed two assists.

Western New England College junior goalie Dennis Harrsch (Morrisonville, NY) finished with 17 saves.
