Solid effort but Western New England College falls to Nichols in ECAC Northeast

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Eric Cremer (Chelsea, MI) scored two goals, including the game-winner with two seconds left in the second period, to lead visiting Nichols College to a 4-1 men's hockey victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast contest Tuesday night (Feb. 19) at Smead Arena.

Nichols (18-5-1, 12-3 ECAC Northeast) took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by freshman forward Will Munson (Corona, CA) at 10:24 of the opening period before WNEC came back to tie the contest when junior forward Hank Levin (Lido Beach, NY) scored just 3:16 later.

Cremer then delivered what proved to be the deciding goal with just two seconds left in the middle stanza.

The Bison added a pair of empty net goals (including one by Cremer) in the final 58 seconds to break open the close game.

Western New England College  (6-15-2, 4-8-2 ECAC) had three power play opportunities in the final period, but couldn't convert.

Junior goalie Keith Fink (Easton, MD) stopped 32 shots for the visitors while junior Kyle Sagnella (East Haven, CT) compiled 24 saves for Western New England College.

Munson finished with a goal and two assists while freshman forward John Haley (Shelburne, VT) added two assists.

Senior forward Shawn Longley (Raymond, ME) and junior defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) assisted on Levin's goal.
