PAXTON, Mass. - The Western New England College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to seven games with an easy 66-27 victory over Anna Maria Wednesday night (Feb. 20).
The Golden Bears (16-8) surpassed last year's win total of 15 and remained tied for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with an 11-1 mark.
Freshman guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) led the visitors with 11 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Sophomore guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) netted 10 points and pulled down four rebounds. Freshman guard Lauren Stock (Rocky Hill, CT) contributed nine points and five rebounds coming off the bench.
Junior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) added eight points, three rebounds, and three steals while sophomore forwards Caitlin Powers (Scotia, NY) and Kaylyn Smith (Rensselaer, NY) each had six points and six rebounds. Senior guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) contributed five steals for the second straight game.
Sophomore guard Julianna Eagles (Quincy, MA) led Anna Maria (1-23, 0-12 TCCC) with a game high 16 points.
WNEC limited the Amcats to only two field goals in the opening half in taking a 38-6 lead. The Golden Bears had a commanding 54-34 advantage in rebounding and forced 34 turnovers.
Western New England College visits Colby-Sawyer at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 23) in the final game of the regular season.
The Golden Bears will host a quarterfinal round of TCCC Tournament next Tuesday (Feb. 26).
