SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forwards Jared Kersner (Rockville, MD) and Mike Caprio (Valencia, CA) each had a goal and assist to lead visiting Becker College to a 3-1 men's hockey victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast contest Thursday night (Feb. 19) at Smead Arena.

The Hawks even their record at 11-11-2 overall and 8-6-1 in the conference while the Golden Bears fall to 6-16-2 and 4-9-2.

Becker led 2-0 after the opening period after a power play goal by Kersner at 11:57 followed by what proved to be the game-winner by freshman forward Robert Higgins (Grandville MI) on a short-handed goal at the 17:15 mark.

WNEC cut the margin in half when freshman defenseman Alex Gorczyca (Columbus, IN) tallied a power play goal at 9:52 of the second period with an assist from junior forward Dean Smith (Warwick, RI).

Caprio added an insurance goal three minutes later on another power play.

Becker sophomore goalie Shawn Stoehr (De Pere, WI) and Western New England College freshman Justin Richards (Somers, CT) each finished with 30 saves.

The Western New England College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a series of promotions during the game before a season high home crowd of 314.
