SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Johnson & Wales broke open a close game with four goals in the final period for a 6-1 ECAC Northeast men's hockey victory over Western New England College Tuesday night (Feb. 26) at Smead Arena in the season finale for both teams.
After a scoreless first period, the Wildcats (8-17, 7-9 ECAC Northeast) scored twice in the opening 6:19 of the middle stanza before senior forward Shawn Longley (Lewiston, ME) put the Golden Bears on the board with his third goal of the season at the 13:40 mark.
Junior defenseman Joe Balog (Ludlow, MA) and freshman forward Kyle Daly (Auburn, MA) had the assists.
JWU senior forward Ryan Jacobs (Derby, VT) tallied twice in the final period in the hard-hitting contest.
Senior forward Matt McGilvray (Rochester, NH) led the Wildcats with two goals and two assists while senior goalie Charlie Bacon (Hudson, MA) stopped 34 shots,
In his first start in a Golden Bears uniform, sophomore goalie Dennis Harrsch (Morrisonville, NY) compiled 28 saves.
Western New England College completes its season with a 6-17-2 record (4-10-2 ECAC Northeast).
