SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Western New England College men's tennis team had a solid effort, but visiting Salve Regina had a little more firepower in taking a 6-3 victory Thursday afternoon (Apr. 17) in the final match of the regular season for both teams.

Despite the loss, the Golden Bears qualified for The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament in their first season in the league after finishing with a 10-5 overall record and 6-3 conference mark.

The Seahawks improved to 14-3 overall and completed a perfect season in TCCC with a 9-0 ledger.

Senior Robbie Norton (Exeter, NH) led SRU by winning his #1 singles flight and #1 doubles match with freshman Trey Van Buskirk (La Jolla, CA).

WNEC junior Alex Boutin (Bristol, CT) took his #2 singles match in straight sets as did freshman Brian Relihan (Orange, CT) at the #5 singles position.

Western New England College earns the fifth seed in the conference tournament with a visit to fourth-seeded Endicott on Saturday (Apr. 19) in a quarterfinal round meeting.
