SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College returned to its winning ways with a 12-0, 10-2 doubleheader sweep over visiting Anna Maria Wednesday (Apr. 23) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader.
Both contests were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
The Golden Bears hit the ball well delivering 14 hits in each game in raising their record to 22-12 overall and 14-6 in the conference.
Sophomore rightfielder Christina Farese (Marlborough, MA) went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs in the opener, then had a 2-for-4 performance with three runs in the second game.
Senior third base player Meredith Pacelli (Hamden, CT) had four hits and five RBI in the twinbill with a two-run homer (her first of the season) in the first game.
Senior designated player Steph Ganer (Fairfield, CT) and sophomore left-fielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) also contributed four hits apiece in the games.
Junior pitcher Laura Bower (Hudson, MA) tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener with 10 strikeouts and four walks. She raised her record to 14-6.
Senior pitcher Alex Paterson (Deep River, CT) followed with another one-hitter with five walks in moving over the .500 mark at 5-4.
Anna Maria freshman third base player Jill Hurley (Worcester, MA) had both hits, a single in each contest. The Amcats fall to 7-26 and 4-18 in the league.
