SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior third base player Adrienne Walker (Springfield, MA) went 2-for-4 and knocked in the winning runs with a two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning as Westfield State defeated Western New England College 3-1 in a non-league softball game Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 8).

Junior pitcher Chelsea Sylvia (South Dartmouth, MA) allowed five hits and struck out 12 while walking only one in raising her record to 8-3. Junior center-fielder Jackie Mason (Florida, MA) scored two runs for the visitors.

The Owls (13-5) scored an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead in the third before the Golden Bears tied the contest on a two-out RBI double by junior shortstop Brittany DeGennaro (Orange, CT) who also had a single in three-at-bats.

Sophomore left-fielder Lauren Arsenault (Fitchburg, MA) also had two hits. Junior Laura Bower (Hudson, MA) pitched well giving up only six hits with 11 strikeouts and four walks. She is now 7-5 this season.

Western New England College falls to 13-9 after having its four-game winning streak ended.
