Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Coast Guard women's volleyball team won its first match of the season with a 3-1 decision over visiting Western New England College Wednesday evening (Sept. 10) in a battle of Bears.
The Golden Bears won the first game 25-18 before the CGA Bears took the next three by the scores of 25-15, 25-22, and 25-11.
Sophomore middle bocker Lauren Landri (New Canaan, CT) led Western New England College with eight kills and two blocks.
Senior libero Lizzie Manor (Black River, NY) added 13 digs and sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grive, IL) 23 assists.
CGA senior Nicole Gurr (Acton, CA) had 18 kills, including a perfect six-for-six in the final set. Classmate Mary Bitzer (Longmeadow, MA) contributed 11 kills while sophomore Jessica Anderson (Kalamazoo, MI) chipped in with 16 digs.
Coast Guard is now 1-6 while WNEC drops to 3-2.
