BRISTOL, R.I. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to host Roger Williams (3-2) and Colby-Sawyer (3-1) Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) in the opening day of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action for the three squads.
In the opening match, the Golden Bears took the first two games 25-21 and 25-15 before bowing 25-17, 25-14, and 15-9.
WNEC enior outside hitter Rachel Cervone (West Springfield, MA) posted a double-double with 14 kills and 17 digs.
Sophomore setter Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) also compiled a double-double with 40 assists and 15 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Caroline Bitters (Greenfield, MA) added nine kills and 19 digs.
In the second match that took almost two-and-half hours, the Chargers prevailed by the scores of 25-22, 27-29, 25-22, and 30-28.
Cervone again sparkled with 21 kills, 26 digs, and five aces. Boes had another top effort with 39 assists and eight digs. Senior libero Lizzie Manor (Black River, NY) contributed 22 digs.
Western New England College is now 3-4 overall.
Colby-Sawyer (3-5) blanked Roger Williams (8-3) by the score of 3-0 in the final match of the day.
