SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Host Springfield picked-up its first victory of the season with an easy 9-0 win over Western New England College Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference women's tennis match held at SC's Appleton Courts.
The Pride is now 1-1 while the Golden Bears fall to 0-5.
Springfield won all three doubles matches and then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore Amy Shaw (Walpole, MA) rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first set to take a 6-4, 6-0 decision over WNEC junior Kristen Ayers (Acton, MA) at No. 1 singles.
Western New England College senior Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, PA) had strong performance splitting her first two matches at the No. 3 singles position, but fell in the super-breaker, 11-9, to junior Rachel Kushma (London, England).
