DUDLEY, Mass. - The Western New England College women's tennis team gained its first victory of the season with a 5-4 decision over host Nichols Saturday afternoon (Sept. 20).
Freshman Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, MA) came through with a big win for the Golden Bears at the No. 2 singles position. She defeated Molly McGuire (East Sandwich, MA) 6-4, 7-5, who dropped her first match in eight outings.
Junior Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) picked-up a pair of wins at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles with sophomore Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, MA).
Freshman Christina Barbarisi (Feeding Hills, MA) captured her No. 6 singles match while senior Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, PA) teamed with freshman Jessica Haffner (Suffield, CT) for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Western New England College is now 1-4 overall and 1-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
The Bison fall to 6-2 and 3-2 in the conference.
