DANBURY, Conn. - The Western New England College women's volleyball team capped a successful weekend by finishing second at the WestConn Invitational Saturday (Sept. 6) at The O'Neill Center.
The Golden Bears posted a 2-1 record in the two-day tournament after splitting a pair of matches today.
WNEC (3-1) posted its third consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) over Lasell in a morning match, then dropped a 3-1 decision (20-25, 31-29, 25-20, 25-18) to undefeated Western Connecticut in the afternoon contest.
Sophomore Katharina Boes (Buffalo Grove, IL) had 69 assists in the two matches (including 43 against WCSU) to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She also contributed 14 digs against WestConn.
Junior Christina Longto (Kingston, NY) added 10 kills against both Lasell and Western Connecticut.
Senior Lizzie Manor (Black River, NY) chipped in with 23 digs and two aces against Lasell while sophomore Samantha Shomo (Glen Gardner, NJ) contributed 11 kills and 17 digs against the host Colonials.
WestConn (4-0) went undefeated in three matches as junior Becca Stein (Kingston, NY) was selected the Tournament MVP. She had 14 kills andseven kills against the Golden Bears.
