Box Score MILTON, Mass. - Senior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, CT) compiled her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Western New England College women's basketball team posted a 63-54 victory over Curry Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener for both squads.
Arey, the team captain, made 6-of-8 shots from the field while dishing out a game-high four assists. She also had a pair of steals.
Junior forward Caitlin Powers (Scotia, NY) played a key role in the win by contributing 14 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench.
Junior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) and sophomore guard Loren Stock (Rock Hill, CT) each added nine points.
Western New England College led the entire game and held a 32-22 advantage at halftime.
Curry twice pulled within one in the second half, the last time at 38-37 with 13:12 left in the contest. The Golden Bears didn't fold, pulling away to take their biggest margin at 60-45 following two free throws by Arey with 2:14 remaining.
Sophomore forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) led the hosts with 14 points while senior forward Emma Dickson (North Yarmouth, ME) chipped-in with 13 points.
Senior forward Christina Sancinito (Wakefield, MA) pulled down a game high 12 rebounds.
Western New England College improves its record to 5-7 while the Curry falls to 3-9.
