Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - Junior forward Caitlin Powers (Scotia, NY) came off the bench to score a game high 14 points in leading the Western New England College women's basketball team to a 57-38 victory over Roger Williams Tuesday night (Jan. 13).
The Golden Bears raised their record to 6-7 after winning their third outing in four contests while improving to 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Powers connected on 6-of-11 shots from the field, collected three rebounds, and had three steals in 24 minutes of action. She also had 14 points (her season high) in a win at Curry last Saturday (Jan. 10).
Sophomore guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) added 12 points and five rebounds while senior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
Junior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) netted only seven points, but pulled down eight rebounds with six steals, four assists, and a block.
Freshman forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) chipped-in with seven points, ix boards, and a pair of steals. Senior guard Krystal James (New Haven, CT) had her best performance of the season with three points, five rebounds three assists, and a steal.
Western New England College led 19-10 in a low-scoring opening half and extended its margin to 36-15 following back-to-back baskets by Powers, the second coming with 13:27 remaining in the game.
The Golden Bears' defense held the Hawks to only 28.3% shooting from the floor and forced 27 turnovers.
Sophomore guard Kate Malenczak (Sayville, NY) led the hosts with 11 points while senior forward Heather Babin (Danvers, MA) compiled a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds along with four blocks.
The Hawks fall to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
