Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team received 15 points from senior guard Todd Doyle (Mystic, CT) in posting a 63-56 victory over visiting Western New England College Wednesday night (Jan. 21) at Tansey Gymnasium.
The Leopards improved their record to 5-11 while the Golden Bears dropped to 4-10. Both squads are 2-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Senior guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) led Western New England College with 15 points while sophomore forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) netted 11 points coming off the bench. Both players also pulled down six rebounds.
Wentworth led 27-19 at halftime and off the Golden Bears' comeback attempt in the second half. The Leopards held a 12-point advantage (50-38) with 7:17 left in the game before WNEC got within five (57-52) following a three-pointer by Maynard with 55 seconds remaining.
Doyle made four free throws in the final 53 seconds to secure the victory.
Senior guard Kevin Wentworth (Ware, MA) contributed 14 points while junior forward Matt Abbott (Falmouth, MA) compiled a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds for the hosts.
Western New England College played the game without junior point guard Rick Johnson (Springfield, MA) who was sick.
