FITCHBURG, Mass. - Western New England College is playing some of its best hockey of the season, but still coming up just short.

Senior center Matt Arsenault (Gardner, MA) scored on an unassisted power play goal at 11:47 of the third period to lead host Fitchburg State to a 2-1 victory over the Golden Bears Saturday (Jan. 24) in an ECAC Northeast battle.

This was the second straight 2-1 loss for WNEC who fell to non-league rival Brockport on Wednesday.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Chris Riggs (Sewell, NJ) scored at the 7:31 mark of the opening period with an assist from sophomore defenseman Erik Trahan (Manville, RI).

Western New England College tied the game on a short-handed goal by freshman forward Mike Kaselouskas (East Longmeadow, MA) at 3:40 of the second stanza.

Fitchburg State sophomore goalie Robert Vorse (Leominster, MA) and WNEC sophomore Justin Richards (Somers, CT) each compiled 25 saves.

The Golden Bears fall to 1-14-1 and 1-7-1 in the ECAC Northeast. The Falcons improve to 7-6-4 and 4-3-2 in the league.
