SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Allegra Lovoy (Charlestown, RI) had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Salve Regina women's basketball team to a 52-44 victory over Western New England College Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Seahawks, who snapped a two-game skid, improved their record to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). SRU is 6-1 in road contests this season.

Salve Regina led 26-18 at halftime before the Golden Bears opened the second half with a 10-1 run to take a 28-27 lead following a basket by freshman forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) with 13:14 left in the game. Lovoy tied the score with a pair of free throws before freshman guard Mikaela Berthiaume (St. Albans, VT) drained a long three-pointer to give WNEC a 31-29 advantage at the 10:45 mark.

The game was tied at 33-33 when the Seahawks went on a 16-0 run with Lovoy contributing eight points to help Salve Regina take a 49-33 lead with 1:24 remaining.

Western New England College finished the game with an 11-3 run to make the score close.

Also scoring in double figures for the visitor was freshman center Lindsay Shorey (Ashland, MA) who had 11 points along with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Erin Phillips (Morristown, NJ) added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) led the Golden Bears with 13 points, including two free throws that pulled the hosts within 51-44 with 20.9 seconds left. Senior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) contributed seven points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.

Western New England College falls to 7-9 and 3-2 in the conference.
