The Nor'easters remaine unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 7-0 record and are now 16-3 overall.
Playing without senior forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT), Western New England College stayed with the league leaders in the opening half trailing by only six (37-31) at intermission. Fredette injured his ankle against Nichols Thursday; he is the team's top rebounder (9.4 avg.) and second leading scorer (10.8).
The University of New England broke away in the second half and finished the game making 57.1% of its field goal attempts.
Western New England College had two players in double figures as junior point guard Rick Johnson (Springfield, MA) finished with 16 points and five assists while sophomore forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) contributed 15 points, a game high eight rebounds, three blocks, and three assists.
Senior guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) and junior forward Brendan Murphy (West Springfield, MA) each added eight points for the Golden Bears who shot a respectable 45.3% from the floor.
Johnson and junior forward Mike Booker (Springfield, MA) each handed out five assists.
UNE received 40 points from its reserves as sophomore guard Chas Rentrope (Peoria, AZ) and junior guard Marchale Robinson (Baton Rouge, LA) each chipped-in with 10 points.
Western New England College falls to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in the conference after suffering its fifth consecutive loss.
