Bridgewater State tops Western New England College in battle of Bears

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Sophomore guard Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) poured in 28 points as the Bridgewater State women's basketball team posted an 83-65 victory over visiting Western New England College in a non-league contest Thursday evening (Jan. 9).

Cuddihy made 10-of-13 shots from the field (including 5-of-7 three pointers) and dished out four assists.

Freshman forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) added 15 points and eight rebounds while freshman guard Stephanie Houtman (New Bedford, MA) had 13 points for the Bears who raised their record to 6-5.

The Golden Bears had four players in double figures with senior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) and sophomore guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) each scoring 15 points while pulling down seven rebounds.

Junior guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) contributed 12 points and had three assists and three steals.

Freshman forward Sarah Proper (Coxsackie, NY) had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Bridgewater State, which shot 47% from the field, led 36-26 at halftime.

Western New England College falls to 4-7.
